ABOUT CHIN MISSION
The Communication for Health India Network (CHIN) is a network of advocacy organisations, which advocates for reduction of poverty and the right to health and developing interactive communication approaches to address them. The CHIN network aims to increase access to appropriate information and to influence policies and practices for improving the health and well being of vulnerable groups by mutual empowerment, synergy and involving a wider circle of groups and organisations who believe in an egalitarian, equitable and sustainable society.
NETWORK
Networking is a process of exchanging information in appropriate forms leading to the achievement of the objectives of a group of people and organisations that come together for a common goal.
STRATEGIES
The CHIN network aims to increase access to appropriate information and to influence policies and practices for improving the health and well being of vulnerable groups by mutual empowerment, synergy and involving a wider circle of groups and organisations who believe in an egalitarian, equitable and sustainable society.
OUTCOMES ENVISAGED
Increased capacity of CHIN partners in empowerment, communication and advocacy
Increase accessibility of information and effective advocacy by vulnerable groups
An innovative model of monitoring and impact evaluation of communications work leading to empowerment and advocacy.
PROJECT
The CHIN partners together launched a project entitled “Strengthening the voice of vulnerable groups in India” which is for a period of five years and is supported partially by the UK Government Department of International Development (DFID) in January 2002.

Centre for Health Education Training and Nutrition Awareness (CHETNA), Gujarat
Child in Need Institute (CINI), West Bengal
Christian Medical Association of India (CMAI), New Delhi
Rural Unit for Health and Social Affairs (RUHSA), Tamil Nadu and
Healthlink Worldwide, London.

The five CHIN partners form the Core Secretariat and the Secretariat office is managed in rotation between the partners and each partner takes the responsibility of coordinating and facilitating the network activities.

CHETNA hosted the CHIN Secretariat from January 2002 to March 2005.
From April 2005 to March 2008, CINI will host the CHIN Secretariat and coordinate the activities in India.
